Despite a decisive 26-10 loss to Tennessee in late October, Alabama remains five spots ahead of the Volunteers in the College Football Playoff rankings. The Crimson Tide’s No.
5 ranking stems from a stronger strength of schedule (No. 7) and a deeper roster of quality wins, including victories over Kentucky and South Carolina, despite losses to Georgia and Tennessee.
Tennessee, ranked No. 13, carries only one win over a Top 25 opponent—its upset over Alabama—while falling to Texas and South Carolina.
The CFP committee also credited Alabama with an extra quality win over Mississippi State, as the game predated quarterback Kamario Taylor’s season-ending injury. With Tennessee needing a 10-2 record (or potentially a 9-3 mark with a win over Kentucky) to secure a playoff spot, the Vols face a challenging road ahead.
Meanwhile, Alabama’s upcoming matchup against LSU (ranked No. 14) could further solidify its top-tier standing.
