LSU faces a significant defensive puzzle following a severe injury to linebacker Whit Weeks, who might miss the remainder of the 2026 campaign and will definitely be sidelined past early November. The team's depth has eroded rapidly, compounded by a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament tear for reserve linebacker Charles Ross and a similar knee injury sustained a week prior by hybrid defender Da'Shawn Spears.
To fill the void in the starting lineup, defensive coordinator Blake Baker is expected to lean on veteran Davhon Keys. While Keys brings plenty of game experience and reliable run-stopping ability, his skill set differs from Weeks because he lacks the same explosive pass-rushing burst.
Consequently, the coaching staff may need to alter certain blitz schemes to maintain defensive pressure while adjusting to the personnel changes.
