Week 5 miss aside, Matt Gay’s accuracy a plus for Raiders special teams

Matt Gay has been a bright spot for the Las Vegas Raiders, converting 10 of 11 field‑goal attempts—including a career‑long 59‑yard kick—and perfect on extra points, giving him 44 points, the fifth‑highest total in the league and tying him for third in field goals made. His 91.7% accuracy sits well above the NFL average of 84.8%, underscoring the precision he displayed under former Rams special‑teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis, now the Raiders’ special‑teams head coach.

Punter AJ Cole III has complemented Gay’s success, delivering 19 punts for 948 yards at a 49.9‑yard average, ranking sixth in the NFL, while his net average of 43.3 yards ranks 11th. Cole’s longest punt this season is 72 yards; seven of his kicks have been downed inside the opponent’s 20‑yard line, and two resulted in touchbacks.
