Wedgewood Keeps Avalanche Afloat in Sloppy Opening Period Against Flames

The Colorado Avalanche entered Thursday’s matchup against the Calgary Flames seeking to rebound from a tough 3–2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets the night before, marking their first road defeat of the season. After starting 2–0, the Avalanche now face a struggling Flames team that remains winless in three games, with Nathan MacKinnon and Martin Necas leading the charge in a pivotal back-to-back series.

The Avalanche’s forward depth has shown promise, while Dustin Wolf, the Flames’ goaltender, has drawn criticism for the team’s dismal start. The game at Scotiabank Saddledome will test Colorado’s resilience after a late collapse in Winnipeg, where a Kyle Connor goal sealed the Jets’ victory despite the Avalanche’s strong offensive play and shot dominance.
