During the third T20I fixture against India, New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell launched a powerful pull shot off a short delivery from bowler Arshdeep Singh in the sixth over. The fiercely struck flat six flew dangerously close to a security guard near the boundary rope who was facing the stands and remained unaware of the approaching projectile.
Mitchell himself appeared startled by the close call as he watched the ball zoom past the steward's head. At the time, Mitchell had reached 48 runs from 25 balls, featuring three sixes and four fours.
Ahead of the match at the Sky Stadium in Wellington, New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner announced three alterations to his starting lineup, bringing in Matt Fisher, Kyle Jamieson, and Adam Milne while noting that players like Matt Henry were unavailable due to rotation and minor injuries. Santner observed that the pitch offered early pace and bounce and admitted that his side needed to finish matches stronger after letting winning positions slip in the first two games of the series.
