Virginia Tech football: A look at Pittsburgh by the numbers

An unprecedented college football matchup is set for Friday night in Blacksburg as two undefeated and unranked major conference rivals collide. Both the Virginia Tech Hokies and Pittsburgh Panthers enter the contest at four and zero overall and one and zero in conference play.

Pitt sophomore quarterback Mason Heintschel leads his offense having thrown thirteen touchdown passes already this season. His primary deep threat, Cataurus Hicks, is averaging twenty-one yards per catch.

Meanwhile, the Panther defense ranks eleventh nationally and allows a mere fifty-three rushing yards per contest. Historically, opposing coach Pat Narduzzi faced James Franklin four times while Franklin was at Penn State, resulting in three wins for Penn State and one victory for Pitt.
