Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio confirmed Tuesday that the team will begin rotating Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and Jihaad Campbell at off-ball linebacker moving forward.
The decision comes after Trotter Jr. was controversially ejected during the Week 5 opener against the Los Angeles Rams, though Fangio dismissed reports suggesting Trotter Jr.
was ever in line to start the game. Instead, the plan is to alternate between the two players by series, giving Trotter Jr.
more opportunities after strong early-season contributions when Zack Baun was sidelined. Fangio praised Trotter Jr.’s performance in limited snaps, stating he deserves increased playing time despite his occasional missed assignments, including a critical tackle in Week 4 that allowed the Rams to score a game-winning touchdown.
Meanwhile, Campbell’s role will be adjusted despite his knee injury, with Fangio offering a neutral assessment of his most recent performance as 'played OK.' The rotation signals a shift in the Eagles’ defensive strategy, prioritizing Trotter Jr.’s development over the front office’s earlier investment in Bryce Huff, who remains on the bench.
