Valencia sack Corberan and chief executive

Valencia have dismissed manager Carlos Corberan alongside chief executive Ron Gourlay following a dismal opening to the campaign that yielded just a solitary point across five games, leaving the club rooted to the foot of La Liga. The 43-year-old tactician arrived in December 2024 from West Bromwich Albion with the team sitting second from bottom, ultimately guiding them to a 12th-place finish that year before the squad ended up ninth the following season.

However, on the heels of a heavy 5-0 thrashing by Barcelona last week, the club decided to part ways with Corberan, his backroom assistants, Gourlay, and the executive's personnel group featuring Lisandro Isei, Hans Gillhaus, Andres Zamora, and Malek Shafei.

The leadership explained the clear-out as an effort to initiate a fresh chapter in managing sporting structures and overall football activities, noting that replacements will be revealed soon. Reserve-side trainer Oscar Sanchez has been appointed caretaker manager ahead of Tuesday's clash with Deportivo Alaves, stepping in until the organization hires its 18th permanent head coach since 2012.
