India captain Shreyas Iyer elected to field first after winning the toss in the second T20I against New Zealand at Hagley Oval. The touring side made two adjustments to their lineup, bringing back Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Prince Yadav, with the latter replacing Mayank Yadav.
Ishan Kishan was excluded from the squad for this match due to a physical setback.
Despite his return to the side, Sooryavanshi will not open the batting as some expected. Instead, the young talent is slated to occupy the number three position for the remainder of the contest.
Iyer emphasized the need for a proactive fielding display and a bold tactical mindset as his team looks to capitalize on the expected dew conditions in Christchurch.
