USC’s Strong Link to Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer Looms Over Lincoln Riley’s Future

USC is facing mounting questions regarding the direction of its football program following a twenty-point defeat against Oregon that brought the team's record against ranked opponents under Lincoln Riley to five wins and fifteen losses. Although a coaching change is not imminent and would require triggering an expensive buyout believed to be approximately seventy million dollars, analysts note that athletic director Jen Cohen might pursue Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer if the leadership decides to move on.

Cohen previously hired DeBoer during their tenure together at Washington, where the coach compiled twenty-five victories against three defeats and reached a national championship contest before taking over the Crimson Tide program.
