The UCLA Bruins have climbed to No. 9 in the AP Top 25 Poll following a decisive 17-7 victory over Wisconsin at the Rose Bowl, marking their highest ranking since 2022.
Led by senior quarterback Ty Dieffenbach, the Bruins have now defeated two tough Big Ten opponents in a row, including Oregon, and are on a 6-0 start to the season. Their rise coincides with a broader shakeup in college football rankings, as five of the top eight teams from last week’s poll suffered upsets, creating an opportunity for UCLA to solidify its place among the nation’s elite programs under head coach Bob Chesney.
The Bruins, who finished 3-9 last season under former coach DeShaun Foster, have transformed under Chesney, bolstered by a wave of transfers, including standout running back Wayne Knight from James Madison University. With a relatively light remaining schedule—save for a season-ending showdown with USC—they are now poised to finish ranked in the Top 10 for the first time since 2014, restoring pride to a program that had fallen on hard times.
