UCLA football delivered a statement win over Oregon on Saturday, handing the No. 13 Ducks their first loss of the season with a 17-15 victory.
The Bruins, now ranked No. 21 nationally, showcased a defensive resilience that frustrated Oregon’s top quarterback, Dylan Raiola, who was benched after a lackluster performance.
Raiola was intercepted twice and limited to just 43 passing yards, while UCLA’s defense forced six turnovers from the Ducks—including a muffed snap by backup quarterback Brock Thomas that sealed the game. Head coach Bob Chesney emphasized the shift in UCLA’s trajectory, calling the win a turning point for a program often overlooked despite its West Coast recruiting advantages.
"This is not the normal UCLA," Chesney said postgame, hinting at a more competitive and confident future for the Bruins. Despite an inconsistent offensive showing—including two interceptions for UCLA’s starting quarterback, Nico Iamaleava, who left with a lower-body injury—backup Ty Dieffenbach stepped in to preserve the win, reinforcing the team’s evolving culture under Chesney’s leadership.
