San Jose Sharks captain Macklin Celebrini recently revealed his personal list of the top five under-23 players in a social media video, omitting himself from the selection. He placed Chicago Blackhawks center Connor Bedard at number one, followed by New York Islanders defender Matthew Schaefer and Anaheim Ducks forward Leo Carlsson.
Montreal Canadiens prospects Lane Hutson and Ivan Demidov rounded out the group in the fourth and fifth positions, respectively. Bedard is currently dealing with a shoulder issue that will cause him to miss the beginning of the campaign, while Schaefer enters his sophomore year after a 59-point rookie campaign.
Carlsson looks to build upon a previous season where he recorded 67 points across 70 appearances. Hutson elevated his production from 66 to 78 points in his second year and will now practice tip-in strategies alongside newcomer Chris Kreider.
Demidov topped all rookies with 62 points during his initial campaign and could see increased even-strength minutes alongside Juraj Slafkovsky this year.
