Tribe puts Glamorgan in driving seat against Surrey

Asa Tribe compiled his maiden top-flight century to place Glamorgan in complete command against Surrey, steering the visitors to 339 for five and an overall lead of 356 runs on the second day at the Kia Oval. Tribe remained undefeated on 142 from 305 deliveries across seven hours at the crease, striking 15 boundaries after Glamorgan had been bowled out for 132 and dismissed the hosts for 115 on a frantic opening day.

Following an 87-run opening alliance with Zain ul-Hassan, who made 33, Tribe combined with skipper Kiran Carlson in a 114-run third-wicket partnership. Carlson ended a lean patch by contributing 57 from 114 balls before Ben Kellaway chipped in with 43 during an 80-run fourth-wicket stand on an easing surface.

Surrey's bowlers found breakthroughs hard to come by, though substitute seamer James Taylor trapped ul-Hassan and removed Jack Hope-Bell for five. Kellaway was eventually dismissed by Tom Lawes via an Adam Thomas catch, and Dan Worrall subsequently had Billy Root caught behind for 11, giving Thomas seven catches in the match.

Chris Cooke was unbeaten alongside Tribe on 14 at the close of play, leaving Glamorgan firmly in the ascendancy with five second-innings wickets still in hand.
