Following a unanimous selection for the Kia WNBA Rookie of the Year award, Minnesota Lynx guard Olivia Miles received a congratulatory social media video from Timberwolves star LaMelo Ball. Miles captured the honor after averaging 19.8 points, 6.0 assists, and 4.7 rebounds during a debut campaign where she helped her squad secure the top league record at 33-11 while breaking the first-year scoring benchmark previously set by Caitlin Clark.
Her parents, Yakubu and Maria Miles, surprised her with the trophy at a team gathering alongside head coach Cheryl Reeve.
The celebration occurred as the top-seeded Lynx faced immediate postseason pressure after dropping the opening game of their playoff series to the New York Liberty by a score of 91-75. During that contest, Miles contributed 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds, leaving her squad facing elimination ahead of Game 2.
Her standout rookie season also earned her the distinction of being the sole first-year player selected for the All-Star Game while helping stabilize the roster during the absence of Napheesa Collier.
