Tilak Varma's old-school finishing is just what India need

Tilak Varma delivered a measured performance in the second T20I against New Zealand, helping the Shreyas Iyer-led team recover from a precarious 112/6. Supported by Naman Dhir and Nitish Kumar Reddy, Varma adopted a traditional approach inspired by Mahendra Singh Dhoni by taking the innings deep and capitalising when pace returned to the attack after Mitch Santner claimed four wickets.

Following discussions with Gautam Gambhir and Sitanshu Kotak, Varma anchored the chase to earn the Player-of-the-Match award.
