Indian batter Tilak Varma recently elaborated on how his approach to batting has shifted depending on where he is positioned in the order, following a fifty in a recent T20 fixture against New Zealand. Varma explained that while he used to focus on setting the pace early while batting at number three, his current role lower down at numbers five and six involves anchoring the innings, rotating the strike, and accelerating in the closing stages.
He also mentioned that he occasionally offers tactical suggestions to captain Shreyas Iyer due to his own experiences leading sides in domestic cricket. The upcoming fourth encounter in the five-match series is scheduled to take place at Eden Park with a full capacity crowd expected.
