The Minnesota Twins could take a major step forward in 2027, but their playoff aspirations hinge on the recovery and performance of a handful of key players. Pitcher José Berrios (José López) missed the entire 2026 season due to Tommy John surgery, and while his rehab has progressed well, he’s unlikely to return to full effectiveness immediately.
His return to the rotation would still provide a critical boost, as the Twins struggled without him. Meanwhile, outfielder Byron Buxton (Byron Buxton) has dealt with persistent hip issues that derailed his second-half performance, despite a strong first half that included 25 home runs and 45 RBIs.
A fully healthy Buxton would anchor the lineup and stabilize the team’s veteran leadership role.
The Twins’ young talent will also play a decisive role. Prospects Walker Jenkins and Kaelen Culpepper showed promising offensive potential in limited major-league action, combining for 59 games and establishing confidence in their offensive contributions.
Outfielder Jorge Rodríguez, however, remains an uncertainty—his limited 2026 debut and lack of options complicate his long-term role. On the mound, lefty pitcher Jorge Rojas (Jorge Rojas) flashed high upside with 34 strikeouts over 29 innings, though his command needs refinement.
His development could be pivotal, especially if he returns as a starter rather than a reliever.
