The Red Sox are heading to New York hurt, but injuries are no excuse

Boston travels to New York facing a heavy injury burden for the Wild Card Series, though several key players are returning just in time. Garrett Crochet, Willson Contreras, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Tanner Houck are all back active, while contributors like Mickey Gasper, Tyron Guerrero, Eli White, Justin Slaten, Masataka Yoshida, and Curtis Mead remain sidelined or doubtful.

On the mound, the rotation will lean on Payton Tolle, Sonny Gray, and Ranger Suarez, supported by multi-inning relief options in Brayan Bello and Jake Bennett.

Aroldis Chapman anchors the back of the bullpen following a week of rest since his last appearance against Cleveland, while Garrett Whitlock provides additional late-inning depth. Despite missing numerous pieces across the roster, the squad aims to navigate the upcoming three-game series relying on their available pitching strength.
