The No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns fell 27-24 to the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday, ending their unbeaten season in a shocking upset at the annual Red River Rivalry.
Despite entering the contest as 7.5-point favorites against a Sooners squad that had recently suffered defeats to unranked Michigan and Georgia, Texas could not overcome a resilient Oklahoma defense led by head coach Brent Venables.
Quarterback Arch Manning, who opened the scoring with a 41-yard pass to Cam Coleman, was pressured into poor decisions, finishing with 260 passing yards, two sacks, and two interceptions. Oklahoma erased a 17-7 halftime deficit by outscoring Texas 20-7 in the second half.
In the aftermath, head coach Steve Sarkisian attributed the loss to mental errors and turnovers, noting the anger and frustration present in the locker room as the team drops out of the top spot in the upcoming rankings.
