Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte issued an apology following his school's twenty to seventeen victory over Tennessee, pointing to uncalled-for antics by Longhorns competitors during the contest. Defensive lineman Colin Simmons picked up an unsportsmanlike infraction during the second quarter after mimicking restroom use following a sack against quarterback Faizon Brandon on September twenty-sixth.
Despite setting a school benchmark with five and a half sacks in the game, Simmons drew sharp criticism from leadership.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian addressed the matter by labeling the display a poor football choice that fails to represent the program's standards. Del Conte echoed those sentiments in a late-September communication to supporters, describing the behavior as embarrassing while noting that the athletes have acknowledged their errors and will utilize the situation as a learning opportunity.
