Following the departure of manager Dan Wilson, Seattle leadership has implemented sweeping changes across the coaching staff to initiate a much-needed organizational culture reset. General manager Jerry Dipoto addressed reporters regarding the shift, noting that while pitching coaches Pete Woodworth and Trent Blank will remain in their roles, major changes were made to hitting and defensive instructors.
Notably, franchise great Edgar Martinez is expected to stay with the organization in some capacity, whereas bench coach Manny Acta alongside defensive coaches Perry Hill and Eric Young Jr. have been let go.
Dipoto expressed sharp criticism regarding the club's defensive regression, pointing out that defensive miscues and poor positioning significantly undermined a pitching staff designed to pound the strike zone. Despite acknowledging that players like J.P.
Crawford, Dylan Moore, and Cole Young possess the capabilities to perform defensively, Dipoto stressed that leading the league in throwing errors and failing to convert double plays unacceptable standards. The front office intends to address these shortcomings through stricter practice demands and improved tactical positioning by the scouting advance team.
