The NFL’s push for more international games is reshaping the traditional Sunday morning television schedule, potentially squeezing out dedicated pregame coverage. Three consecutive weeks of 9:30 a.m.
ET kickoffs—including the Texans-Jaguars matchup in London, which ran until 12:48 p.m. ET—have already cut into the Fox and CBS pregame shows, leaving just 12 minutes of airtime before the next game.
With three more early-starting games confirmed (Steelers-Saints in Week 7, Bengals-Falcons in Week 9, and Patriots-Lions in Week 10), the trend is accelerating. The next collective bargaining agreement will further expand international games to 16 per year, likely increasing the number of 9:30 a.m.
ET starts and forcing networks to reconsider the viability of their current pregame format. The shift could push shows to begin an hour earlier, aligning with the new game times and adapting to the league’s global expansion.
