Struggling Preston North End sack Heckingbottom

Preston North End have dismissed manager Paul Heckingbottom following a disastrous run of six losses across seven fixtures, leaving the team sitting 23rd in the Championship table. The decision arrived immediately after Saturday's 1-0 home setback against Lincoln City at Deepdale, where supporters voiced their frustration with audible jeers when the match concluded.

Initially hired in August 2024, the boss presided over 109 matches in total, yet managed to secure a mere five victories from 27 league outings since January began. The hierarchy noted that despite considerable financial backing for the roster, outcomes throughout 2026 and the opening phase of this term fell short of expectations, though they praised his dedication and conduct upon his exit.

The managerial shakeup also marks the departure of assistant Stuart McCall. Jason Euell has stepped up to handle coaching duties on a temporary basis as the squad prepares to face Queens Park Rangers away this coming Saturday, directly ahead of a three-week hiatus for international fixtures.
