Stoke net stunning winner in comeback to sink Sheff Utd

Stoke City rallied in the second half to defeat Sheffield United 2-1, recording their fourth victory in five Championship matches. The hosts pushed early with efforts from Djibril Soumare, Lamine Cisse in his 150th career appearance, and Ben Johnson, but goalkeeper Michael Cooper held them at bay.

Following a missed opportunity by England Under-21 international Sydie Peck, Kalvin Phillips gave the visitors the lead in the 51st minute, beating goalkeeper Viktor Johansson with a long-range free-kick to end a five-and-a-half-year league scoring drought before 1,939 visiting supporters.

The home team mounted an 11-minute turnaround late in the match to deny Sheffield United what would have been their second away league triumph this term. Jack McGlynn pulled the Potters level in the 78th minute with a thunderous left-footed strike, not long after Eric Bocat forced another save from Cooper.

Substitute Sam Gallagher subsequently sealed the comeback in the 86th minute, controlling the ball before dispatching a magnificent volley.
