Spurs drop into relegation zone after Villa claim first win

Aston Villa earned their maiden victory of the Premier League campaign by defeating Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 in a Saturday lunchtime fixture. The visitors established control in the second half, opening the scoring through J Manzambi in the 49th minute before N Jackson doubled the advantage on 67 minutes.

Emi Buendia added a third for Villa in the 79th minute. Tottenham mounted a late response via an 86th-minute strike from C Gallagher and a stoppage-time goal by J van Hecke in the 98th minute, but the rally fell short.

The defeat leaves Tottenham winless after five league matches, sliding them into the relegation zone prior to the upcoming international break. The outcome significantly intensifies scrutiny on Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi.
