Brian Sorensen has agreed to become an assistant coach for the Republic of Ireland women's team ahead of their upcoming Women's World Cup play-off qualifiers. The former Everton boss will support head coach Carla Ward, renewing a dynamic after the two previously managed against each other during Ward's tenure at Aston Villa.
Sorensen will work alongside fellow assistant Amber Whiteley of Liverpool, while continuing his existing duties as a technical advisor for Aston Villa women by joining the national team specifically during international windows.
The Republic of Ireland's qualification campaign begins with an opening-round playoff contest against Kazakhstan. That stage will be contested across two legs, scheduled for 9 October and 13 October.
