Sorensen to join Republic of Ireland coaching staff

Brian Sorensen is poised to become an assistant coach for the Republic of Ireland women's team ahead of their upcoming Women's World Cup play-off qualifiers. The former Everton boss will partner with Liverpool's Amber Whiteley as part of the backroom staff under head coach Carla Ward.

Sorensen and Ward previously competed against one another in the Women's Super League during Ward's tenure at Aston Villa. While taking on this international duty during tournament windows, Sorensen will also maintain his current role as technical director for Aston Villa women.

The Irish squad faces Kazakhstan across a two-legged encounter in the opening stage of the qualification play-offs. Those decisive fixtures are scheduled to be played on 9 and 13 October.
