Somerset struggle in chase of 287 to beat Yorkshire

Title challengers Somerset reached stumps on 73 for 3 at Headingley, leaving them 214 runs shy of a 287 victory target against Yorkshire. After beginning the third day at 128 for 6, the hosts pushed their second innings to 275 thanks to a pivotal 166-run stand between George Hill and former Somerset player Dom Bess.

Hill contributed 89 from 173 deliveries before falling to Craig Overton, while Bess hit 77 off 186 before being bowled by Migael Pretorius. Archie Vaughan subsequently cleaned up the tail by dismissing Ben Coad and Ben Cliff, while Kuldeep Yadav remained stranded on 23 not out.

Somerset's second innings suffered an immediate blow in the opening over when Coad dismissed Josh Thomas caught behind without a run on the board. Tom Lammonby battled to an unbeaten 29 alongside Tom Abell ahead of the final day, with Somerset looking to regain top spot from Warwickshire, who moved to the summit following a two-day triumph against Essex.
