The Philadelphia 76ers kicked off their preseason campaign with a commanding 120–97 victory over the New York Knicks, despite playing without key stars Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, LeBron James, and several other rotation players. The absence of their top offensive weapons did little to dampen the Sixers’ firepower, as Jaylen Brown delivered an immediate impact in his debut.
In just 17 minutes of action, Brown scored 22 points on efficient shooting (8-of-13 from the field, 3-of-5 from three-point range) while adding two assists, two rebounds, and a block, showcasing his ability to dominate from multiple areas of the court. His early performance suggested the Sixers’ offensive depth extends beyond their usual lineup, with Brown establishing a quick rhythm and contributing nine of the team’s first 13 points.
Beyond Brown’s standout effort, VJ Edgecombe also made an impression with 12 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds, demonstrating improved strength and paint presence. The Sixers’ bench players, including Jabari Walker, Caleb Love, and Dillon Jones, chipped in meaningfully, while an early injury to backup center Ariel Hukporti (Achilles issue) added a minor setback.
Despite the setback, Philadelphia’s preseason opener highlighted a promising blend of talent and versatility, even without their full roster.
