Simon Edvinsson remains unsigned on eve of Red Wings’ season-opening game against Rangers

Restricted free agent defenseman Simon Edvinsson has not yet signed a new deal with the Detroit Red Wings, leaving his status uncertain on the eve of the team's season opener against the New York Rangers. While negotiations between the club and the player's representatives are ongoing, the twenty-three-year-old has been practicing abroad in Sweden rather than with his NHL club.

Meanwhile, forward Dylan Larkin remains in a difficult situation with the franchise following an offseason trade request and subsequent loss of his captaincy. Larkin, who is working through limited training camp participation due to an off-season workout injury, continues to play under the multi-year contract he secured in 2023.
