Shubman Gill has drawn level with some of India's most celebrated cricket icons by collecting his seventh Player of the Series honor in One Day Internationals. The achievement follows a productive three-match tour against West Indies that ended with a 2-1 series victory for the visitors, during which the opening batter accumulated 334 total runs.
His tournament output featured a century of 110 runs in the opening fixture, followed by an unbeaten double century worth 223 runs in the second encounter, before concluding with a single run in the final game. Every one of his seven accolades in this category has been earned since 2022, allowing him to match the career tallies of MS Dhoni, Sourav Ganguly, and Yuvraj Singh in a fraction of the time.
While Sachin Tendulkar leads India's historic leaderboard with 15 such awards and Virat Kohli holds second place with 11, Gill now shares seventh position alongside those three legendary figures after just four years of international play. During the broader contest, West Indies successfully chased down a target of 352 in the second match behind an unbeaten knock of 162 by Shai Hope, while KL Rahul posted an undefeated 129 for India in a losing effort during the third game.
Reflecting on the campaign afterward, Gill pointed out that India dropped roughly half a dozen catches, marking fielding consistency as a critical focus area ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
