India’s new T20I captain Shreyas Iyer has earned high praise from New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson, who played alongside him during the IPL with the Punjab Kings. Ferguson highlighted Iyer’s steady leadership style, noting his ability to remain composed amid the fast-paced nature of T20 cricket.
The Indian team, set to tour New Zealand for a one-and-a-half-month series starting with five T20Is in Christchurch on October 22, will face Ferguson’s pace upfront. Beyond Iyer’s captaincy, Ferguson commended India’s current batting depth, citing players like Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and Tilak Varma as key contributors to the team’s progress after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma stepped down post-World Cup.
He also singled out Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, recently included in India’s T20I squad, as a standout talent with significant potential to shine in the upcoming series against the Kiwis.
