Essex County Cricket Club has terminated the contract of batter Robin Das following his suspension amid ongoing legal proceedings. The 24-year-old, who holds Bangladeshi heritage, was arrested in August 2025 on two charges of rape related to an incident in March 2024.
Das, who made just one first-team appearance for Essex in the 2026 season—a 29-run effort against Middlesex in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup—was granted conditional bail ahead of his trial, scheduled for January 2028. The club confirmed the contract ended before the 2026 season’s conclusion, citing his inability to fulfill playing commitments due to suspension.
Essex emphasized that the decision was independent of the legal case and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding standards in collaboration with cricket authorities.
