During the recent NHL offseason, the Boston Bruins targeted Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kirill Marchenko with a trade proposition, according to information shared by Elliotte Friedman. The Bruins had already made a major splash at the draft by sending two first-round selections to the Utah Mammoth to acquire winger JJ Peterka.
While it remains unclear whether the bid for Marchenko preceded or followed that acquisition, Boston continues exploring ways to bolster its top-six forward group. Marchenko is twenty-six years old and is set to become a restricted free agent following the upcoming 2026-27 campaign, having not yet agreed to an extension with Columbus.
He has consistently produced offensively despite a lack of elite supporting talent, recording at least twenty-one goals in each of his four campaigns, including thirty-one goals during the 2024-25 term and twenty-seven goals last season. Standing six-foot-three and weighing 205 pounds, his combination of size and scoring ability would make him a significant asset for Boston alongside their current veteran core and emerging young players, though the acquisition cost would likely be extremely high.
