Qinwen Zheng has etched her name into tennis history by becoming the first player to win both the China Open and Wuhan Open titles in the same season. The Chinese star secured her first WTA 1000 title in Beijing, defeating Mirra Andreeva in a hard-fought final (7-5, 6-4) to claim the China Open crown.
Zheng’s victory marked a triumphant return to elite form after recovering from elbow surgery, and she rose an impressive 31 places in the WTA rankings following the win. However, her momentum was cut short as she withdrew from the Wuhan Open just days later, citing a shoulder injury.
Andreeva, who had lost the China Open final, also pulled out of the Wuhan tournament, leaving the door open for other competitors to seize the spotlight in the absence of the two top seeds. Zheng’s historic achievement cements her status as a rising force in women’s tennis, while her early withdrawal underscores the physical demands of competing at the highest level.
