Ahead of their regular season opening matchup in Columbus, the Buffalo Sabres reduced their roster to 23 players following a two-day team bonding trip and an hour-long practice session. The organization placed four athletes on injured reserve, including Jason Zucker, Mattias Samuelsson, Conor Timmins, and veteran forward Conor Sheary, alongside minor leaguers Jack Rathbone and Topias Leinonen.
Following his placement on injured reserve, Sheary was additionally placed on waivers with the intention of assigning him to AHL Rochester. Head coach Lindy Ruff expressed optimism regarding Samuelsson's recovery status after the defenseman skated prior to the team workout, though Timmins remained sidelined following an injury sustained during the recent preseason finale against Pittsburgh.
