Baltimore acquired Ryan Helsley on a two-year, $28 million contract to bolster their bullpen following the long-term injury of Felix Bautista. Helsley initially impressed by securing a save against Minnesota on Opening Day, striking out the side while reaching speeds of 101.9 mph.
By late April, he had recorded seven saves with a 2.53 ERA, though he struggled during a loss to Kansas City on April 21. Following a save against Houston on April 28, the right-hander was sidelined for six weeks due to right elbow inflammation.
After completing two rehab appearances in Norfolk, Helsley returned to action on June 17, reporting that he felt healthy and pain-free.
