West Indies bowling coach Ravi Rampaul has emphasized the need for his top-order batters to maintain composure and avoid early collapses in the upcoming second T20I against India. The team’s first match saw a costly cluster of wickets—dropping from 38 for no loss to 44 for three, then from 107 for three to 135 for eight—ultimately derailing their innings.
Rampaul highlighted the importance of rotation at the crease, particularly from players like Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer, who have proven effective against spin bowling when they anchor the innings. He noted that the team’s struggles in the middle overs often stem from losing wickets in quick succession, a pattern that has plagued them in past matches as well.
Additionally, Rampaul acknowledged that his bowling unit’s lack of international T20 experience could pose challenges, as execution sometimes falls short despite strategic planning. The second T20I is set to take place at the JSCA Stadium, where West Indies will look to build on their first-innings total while addressing these key concerns.
