Dauphin Highlands public golf course near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, officially closed its doors on Monday after operating since 1995. The 228-acre property, originally a corporate retreat for Bethlehem Steel Corporation before becoming a county-run course designed by Bill Love, was sold for $45 million to a Texas-based developer.
A massive $10 billion, 400,000-square-foot data center will replace the grounds, which had accumulated $13 million in debt and suffered ongoing financial losses. Over 300 golfers gathered for a final emotional round on the property, featuring longtime figures like director of instruction Tim Birney and opening-day participant Fred DeCock playing their last holes on the layout overlooking the Susquehanna River.
