Root retains ODI Men's Player of the Summer for 2026, lauds England for 'moving in the right direction'

Joe Root secured the Professional Cricketers' Association ODI Men's Player of the Summer accolade for 2026 on September 27. The confirmation arrived on the final day of the home ODI series against Sri Lanka, rounding off a campaign where the batter accumulated 326 runs at a striking average of 54.33, highlighted by three unbeaten half-centuries against India.

Root praised the squad's progression as they dropped just two matches all summer, claiming series triumphs against both India and Sri Lanka while displaying significant depth amidst player injuries.
