NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated that the league is open to a union-led probe into how the Philadelphia Eagles managed Jalen Hurts' health. The NFLPA had demanded a comprehensive review after Hurts was diagnosed with a blood clot in his calf during a trip to London on October 10.
Despite the diagnosis, team doctors and local specialists cleared him to play in a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars the following day, where he recorded one touchdown and 220 passing yards before flying home.
Later, a second ultrasound showed the clot had shifted, leading to Hurts being placed on injured reserve. He was subsequently diagnosed with bilateral pulmonary emboli and deep vein thrombosis, which will keep him out for the rest of the season while he receives blood thinner treatment.
While the NFL will not penalize the Eagles, and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Allen Sills defended the team's medical decisions, the NFLPA maintains that a full investigation is necessary to ensure player safety.
