Rishabh Pant’s road back gets longer as India look beyond him, with 2027 World Cup hopes fading

Rishabh Pant's international limited-overs career has suffered another setback after selectors omitted him from India's ODI contingent for the upcoming matches against the West Indies. Despite Ishan Kishan's unavailability due to Asian Games commitments, the management preferred Dhruv Jurel alongside primary wicketkeeper KL Rahul, leaving Pant further sidelined from 2027 World Cup plans.

50, but has featured in just a single ODI since his horrific car crash, remaining unselected on the field during the 2025 Champions Trophy and completely missing the 2026 T20 World Cup alongside Sanju Samson's rise. Though retained in the Test group, Pant recently lost the format's vice-captaincy and will now captain the Rest of India team against Ranji Trophy winners Jammu and Kashmir in the Irani Cup.
