Rayo Vallecano game abandoned after paper plane protest

A La Liga fixture between Rayo Vallecano and Athletic Club was called off on Saturday after home supporters repeatedly littered the pitch with rubber balls and paper aircraft. The demonstration targeted club president Raul Martin Presa, whom fans hold responsible for the deteriorating condition of the stadium, which had recently faced a temporary closure due to safety concerns including potential Legionnaires' disease.

Play was halted in the 13th minute, and despite a brief attempt to continue after a 15-minute delay, the referee ultimately abandoned the scoreless match when the protest resumed. Athletic Club has since committed to providing refunds for their traveling supporters who made the trip to Madrid.
