Ahead of a five-match one-day international series against New Zealand serving as preparation for the 2027 World Cup, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has strongly criticized national selectors for omitting opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal. Ashwin argued that leaving out the youngster, who previously acted as a reserve opener and recorded an unbeaten century in Chennai, is unfortunate and harms his confidence.
The critic pointed out that with regular captain Shubman Gill missing the final two fixtures and KL Rahul resting for the last two matches, Jaiswal should have been included to secure necessary playing time. Ashwin expressed frustration that the current handling of the left-handed batsman lacks fairness and has negatively impacted his batting form compared to previous seasons.
