Agniveer fast bowler Jayant Goyat made history in the Ranji Trophy by claiming his first five-wicket haul in just his 12th first-class appearance, delivering a crucial breakthrough for Services against Delhi at the Air Force Complex Ground in Palam. The 21-year-old Haryana native, standing at six-foot-four, overcame challenging flat-pitch conditions to take 5 wickets on Day 3, helping his team stage a late fightback in the match.
Goyat, who joined the Air Force through the Agniveer scheme, has since received a two-year contract extension after the Union Cabinet approved additional engagement for 75% of Agniveers. His father, Dr.
Wazir Singh Goyat, also played Ranji Trophy for Haryana during Kapil Dev’s final season, though he never made his debut. Services head coach Lieutenant Colonel AP Singh praised Goyat’s disciplined approach, noting how the young pacer executed the team’s strategy of bowling in good areas rather than searching for wickets.
Goyat, who has represented Haryana at all age-group levels, expressed his ambition to wear the Indian cricket cap one day, emphasizing the determination required to play for the country.
