The 2026/27 Ranji Trophy kicked off with a mix of decisive victories and nail-biting finishes across its elite groups. In Group A, Uttar Pradesh, Baroda, and Vidarbha secured outright wins, while defending champions Jammu & Kashmir survived a dramatic collapse to salvage a draw against Madhya Pradesh, finishing on 78-7 after losing 12 wickets.
Meanwhile, Group B saw Hyderabad dominate with an innings-and-40 win over Tripura, while Karnataka’s Karun Nair’s unbeaten 155 in the second innings secured a hard-fought draw against Andhra. Group C featured Bengal, Maharashtra, and Gujarat emerging victorious, while Jharkhand’s 587-run first-innings total forced a draw against Kerala.
Mumbai and Haryana also made early statements, with Mumbai crushing Chandigarh by 155 runs and Haryana overcoming a slow start to defeat Himachal Pradesh by seven wickets. In the Plate Group, Manipur’s Pheiroijam Jotin’s unbeaten 105 propelled them to a late victory over a struggling Meghalaya side.
