India A wicketkeeper-batter Sai Sudharsan has been selected for New Zealand’s upcoming tour, but the 24-year-old made a strategic decision to prioritize domestic cricket ahead of the trip. After concluding a match in Puducherry, Sudharsan arrived in Tamil Nadu late on October 9 to join the state’s Ranji Trophy opener against Rajasthan the following day.
He revealed that selectors had advised him to participate in the tournament as part of his preparation for the New Zealand series, with interim chief selector Pragyan Ojha confirming the move would benefit his readiness for the conditions there. Sudharsan, who missed India’s Test series in Sri Lanka due to a toe stress fracture, emphasized a positive outlook, crediting past injuries for sharpening his focus on physical care.
To prepare for the tour, he has been studying historical New Zealand Test matches, noting the windy conditions and bounce will resemble those in England but with added lateral movement.
