India made history in T20I cricket by reaching a team fifty in just 2.5 overs during the fifth match of their series against the West Indies in Bengaluru. The blistering start saw the team accumulate 14 runs in the opening over, thanks in part to five wides and a no-ball, before Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson accelerated the scoring with aggressive batting.
Kishan’s 24 off two balls and Samson’s boundary off Shamar Joseph propelled India past the milestone, shattering their own record of three overs set earlier in the year against the same opponents. Despite a strong recovery from the West Indies, including key wickets of Kishan and Samson, Naman Dhir’s late flurry of boundaries pushed India to 108/5 before rain intervened.
The match was eventually abandoned, reducing the West Indies’ chase to five overs and leaving the series tied at 2-2 after five games.
The record-breaking start marked India’s fastest team fifty in men’s T20Is, surpassing previous benchmarks set against New Zealand, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. However, the match’s conclusion was overshadowed by persistent rain, which washed out the decider and denied the West Indies a chance to chase down the target.
The series now ends in a draw, with both teams finishing on equal footing despite India’s explosive early performance.
