Hits & Misses: Liverpool clicking and Chelsea get serious

Liverpool’s high-octane attack showed promising signs of cohesion in a 2-1 win over Brentford, with Alexander Isak scoring his fifth Premier League goal of the season—a standout moment after a slow start. The Swedish striker’s clinical finish, following an assist from Bradley Barcola, highlighted the potential of Liverpool’s £400 million summer recruitment, while Florian Wirtz contributed a key through-ball for Victor Muñoz’s goal.

Barcola, fresh off a hat-trick against LASK, also missed a pair of chances but impressed manager Andoni Iraola with his involvement, who praised his growing impact in front of goal. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s defensive struggles finally took a turn for the better under Xabi Alonso, securing a 2-0 victory at Everton to record their first Premier League clean sheet in nine months.

The win marked Alonso’s first league shutout since taking charge, signaling a more disciplined and “serious” approach that could be pivotal in Chelsea’s push for top-four contention.
